    Unanswered: Oracle 9i Personal edition connection refused

    Pls. help determine what the cause for the connection refused error.

    I have installed 9.0.2 personal edition.

    I am getting JDBC COnnection Refused error same as reported on another thread for err 12505 by neal.

    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Connection refused(DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=153092352)(ERR=1 2505)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12505)(EMFI=4))))

    I have checked that SQLPLUS works with the user/password/sid as scott/tiger/tibet and tnsentry does use port 1521 as below.

    TIBET =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = tibet)(PORT = 1521))
    (SERVICE_NAME = tibet)

    I am using oracle's demo JServ JSP examples to check JDBC samples
    and the demo code is using

    connStr = "jdbcracle:thin:@localhost:1521:tibet";
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(connStr,
    "scott", "tiger");

    I tried using for localhost in connStr above. Still the error.
    9i installed from oracle otn 9.0.2 download just 2 days back.

    Anything concerning the fact it is Personal Edition? or what could be the problem?

    localhost means "same computer as the one i'm running on", so if you don't run the java code on machine TIBET, you should write "tibet" instead of "localhost" ...
