The proper way of doing it is:

    1. In server configuration put tempdb into RAM
    2. Stop/Start the service
    3. Create a dedicated data device and make it default
    4. Create a dedicated log device
    5. Ensure there are no other devices marked as default
    6. Stop/Start service
    7. Ensure that tempdb is now in RAM
    8. In server configuration remove tempdb from RAM
    9. Stop/Start service
    10. Confirm that tempdb resides on the datadevice you created (3)
    11. Expand tempdb by allocating the necessary disk space for data and log using data and log devices you created in 3 and 4.

Out-of-the-box location of tempdb is master.dat. It is recommended to move tempdb to its own device.

    Good luck.

The only thing you can change is Current, the rest are inaccessible. That's why you need to follow the steps so that after bouncing the service the Current value becomes Running.
