    Unanswered: pg_dump error

    Hi,

I am trying to dump the data from my old server to new server.
When I do pg_dump, I get following error.
Anybody knows why and how I can avoid it?

    [admin@www bin]$ ./pg_dump -d db_name > myfile
dumpSequence(sqplace): SELECT failed. Explanation from backend: 'ERROR: sqplace: Permission denied.
    '.

    Thanks,

I would assume that the backend is running as user postgres. As it's the backend that's writing the file, maybe the user postgres doesn't have permission to create the file myfile where you're wanting it to be written. Try creating a tmp directory and setting the permissions so everyone can write to it, then try again.
