    Unanswered: how to delete the instance in oracle

    i found that oarcle without the concept of database

    then how can i drop the database ///( actually the drop the SID)

    it is always to good idea to mention platfrom ,OS Version, RDBMS Version

    call dbca there you will find an option to drop the instance

    or rm -R the SIDs datafiles and cleanup listener.ora and tnsnames.ora
    manually

    yes it does matter on the operating system, because on windows you have to pee around with the registry to completely remove the services.

    I would do the following:

    1) shutdown database/listener
    2) and very slowly and carefully remove the directories associated with the files from the O/S.
    3) on unix you may want to remove the entry from the oratab file
