    Unanswered: ORA-12560:TNS Protocol adapter error

    Hi Everyone

    I've a Problem after updating the Database.

    Original Version 9.2.0.1.0
    Update to: 9.2.0.4.0
    Server Operating System: Windows 2000 Server with SP2

    The Installation of the Patch was successfull, but while the post installation Tasks i have startet the Listener Service with lsnscrtl start command (also successfull) und tried to connect to sqlplus with following command:
    sqlplus / as sysdba

    then the following Error message occurs:

    ORA-12560:TNS Protocol adapter error

    Has Anyone a idea?

    Hi

    I think you must add some items to your environment variables,

    ORACLE_BASE
    ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID

    and then check this variables, with set command from command prompt

    You should also check your tnsnames.ora config using tnsping <SID>

    If/when you are logged onto the same computer which hosts the Oracle database SQL*Net/TNS is NOT necessary to acces the DB!
    In fact it is inefficient to do so.
    The BEQ protocol is more efficeint than TCP/IP.
    ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, & PATH need to be correct;
    and possibly LD_LIBRARY_PATH for *nix systems.
