    Unanswered: sending mail locally

    hi,

    i'm running apache 1.3.29 and the latest release of php 4.x.x.
    I'm trying to send a blank email out to my own email account which is hotmail.
    I did some searching and found that i have to set this in the php.ini file:

    [mail function]
    ; For Win32 only.
    SMTP =localhost

    ; For Win32 only.
    sendmail_from = jacky_cheecheo@hotmail.com

    I tried to run this simple code here:

    $bIsMailSent = mail("jacky_cheecheo@hotmail.com", "Subject", "Body here!",
    "From: webmaster@{$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']}\r\n" .
    "Reply-To: webmaster@{$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']}\r\n" .
    "X-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion());

    All i get is this error:

    Unable to relay for jacky_cheecheo@hotmail.com in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs\halo\mailing.php on line 82

    and this:

    Warning: mail(): SMTP server response: 550 5.7.1

    can someone pls guide me through this??
    Why is the error happening?
    How to overcome that?

    Thank you in advance!!!
    Warm Regards,
    Jacky

    Well, I know if you were running it on Unix, you would have to have some sort of SMTP services running pointing to some sort internet email of server (like sendmail).

    So I would assume you would need some sort of SMTP services running on that windows web server pointing to machine that accepts RELAYING internet email request.

    Maybe that will help?
