    Unanswered: Lio/pio

    Hi guys,
I did a create table as select which pretty much did a bunch of union alls on a set of columns with the same data type. It was working pretty fast before, but now when I tried it, it's taking a really long time.
I did a tkprof and it seems that the cpu and elapsed times are way different, which kind of explains to me that a lot of PIOs are going on. I'm not too sure how to fix this problem, since apparently more use of the database just made this thing happen. Can I put some hints to make this work better?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

The fact that Elapsed time is much larger than CPU shows that you had to do a lot of waiting. That could be caused by PIOs (the Disk column shows how many PIOs occured), or by something else e.g. blocked by another user.

Like The Duck says, we need to see the TKPROF output.

    PIOs

    Thanks for the reply.
I rebooted the db machine and it sped up considerably (back to its original performance).

    I'll post the tkprof soon.

    Thanks!
