    Unanswered: Odd Invalid Authorization Specification Problem

    I am having trouble coding a basic application to retrieve some data from a database I have.

    For reference, the database host is ''
    The client is ''

    I have already set up the mySQL driver Connector/J (verified this).

    I am gettin the following error when I try to

    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://","root","*****");

    where 'supari' is the name of the database i wish to access and root and ***** are the user/password for the database and it has been setup in the user table.

    SQLException: Invalid authorization specification, message from server: "Access denied for user: 'root@GO.ECE.CMU.EDU' (Using password: YES)"
    SQLState: 28000
    VendorError: 1045

    so, it seems like it is trying to get root access to instead of at

    any suggestions?

    Make sure that db access from hosts other than localhost is enabled in your mysql server. You know, it is possible to restrict access based on hosts and/or users in mysql.
