    Unanswered: BFILE and LOB's

    Oracle 9i

Does anyone have and links to documents about BFILES and LOB's. I want to link image files to records in my database but I have never done it before.

What I really need to understand is how Oracle actually 'knows' where the image file is stored, on the server.

    Any information would be appreciated.

I would suggest you go to the documentation page on OTN and look up a couple of topics: ORDSYS and CREATE DIRECTORY.

The ORDSYS schema has all the functions to add / process images and store the appropriate information in the database.

The CREATE DIRECTORY syntax is used to "tell" Oracle where the images are stored in the local file system. In my experience, it has been best to store all (or at least most) of my images in the same directory and therefore only have to use one CREATE DIRECTORY command.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

If you need more help, just ask.
