Unanswered: install error: linking of ctxhx.o: Wrong ELF class: ELFLCASS32

    Hi, there:
I am new to Oracle and bumped into the following install error when I install Oracle 9i on Solaris 9.

    Please shed some light. Thanks!
    This is extracted from $ORACLE_HOME/install/make.log

    /usr/ccs/bin/ld -o ctxhx -L/usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ -L/usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/lib/ -dy /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/lib/WS6U2/lib/v9/crti.o /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/lib/WS6U2/lib/v9/crt1.o /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ctxhx.o -L/usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ -L/usr/openwin/lib -L/usr/dt/lib -lm -lgen -lsc_ca -lsc_fa -lsc_ex -lsc_da -lsc_ut -lsc_ch -lsc_fi -lctxhx -lc -R /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib -lnls9 -lcore9 -lnls9 -lcore9 -lnls9 -lxml9 -lcore9 -lunls9 -lnls9 /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/lib32/WS6U2/lib/crtn.o

The linker doesn't like the file format of of at least one of your files.

Can you post the results of the following command:

    file /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ctxhx.o

Also, what is the exact version of Oracle9i?
And are you running 32bit or 64bit?

    Many thanks for SkyWriter!

    this is what I have:

    # file /usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ctxhx.o
/usr/opt/home/oracle/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ctxhx.o: ELF 32-bit MSB relocatable SPARC Version 1

    The oracle 9i is 64bit: ora_9201_64bit_CD1.tar.gz
The solaris: isainfo -b shows 64.

It looks like you are trying to link a 32 bit object file with with the 64 bit Oracle release. Can you confirm your system meets the necessary system requirements for Oracle

In particular, have you installed SUNWsprox?
