Hello people, how can I set up a query to give me results of areas of business which contain Manufacture??

    Hi,

Try making a query and adding the following to the box that you want to filter:

    Like "[Manufactuers]*"

Do you want to return only results where there is a manufacturer?
If so you can use Is Not Null in the manufacturer's criterea cell.

there are lots of others, such as Farming etc, but I only want to see types of business with only manufacture contained within the name such as:

    Car Manufacture
    Machine tool manufacture

I don't want to see Farming, Gardening, greengrocers !!!

    Select *
    from table
    where NOT INSTR(UCASE(business), 'manufacture') = 0

Let me see if I understand you correctly.

You have data similar to the following in a table called mergedinformation in a field called Heading:

    Car Manufacture
    Farming
    Machine Tool Manufacture
    Train Manufacture
    Gardening

And you only want to return rows 1, 3, and 4?

If so paste this into your query's SQL pane:
    SELECT * FROM mergedinformation WHERE Heading LIKE 'Manufacture';
All code ADO/ADOX unless otherwise specified.

I think you're going to need a wildcard character in there somewhere.

    Given the relation,

    column
    ------------
    manufacture
    manufacture plant
    finance
    test
    external manufacture

    In Access 2002,

    Select *
    from table
    where NOT INSTR(UCASE(column), 'manufacture') = 0

If so paste this into your query's SQL pane:
SELECT * FROM mergedinformation WHERE Heading
    LIKE "Manufacture*"

    in Access.MDB

    and this

If so paste this into your query's SQL pane:
SELECT * FROM mergedinformation WHERE Heading
    LIKE "Manufacture%"
