Unanswered: Cannot allocate command structure for 'bs_end_dump' RPC

    My interface file is this:

    Janos:/Applications/Sybase/System janos$ cat interfaces
    #
    # Server 'Janos_ASE' added during installation
    #
    Janos_ASE
    master tcp ether Janos.local 11222
    query tcp ether Janos.local 11222
    #
    # Server 'Janos_BACKUP' added during installation
    #
    Janos_BACKUP
    master tcp ether Janos.local 11223
    query tcp ether Janos.local 11223
    #
    # Server 'Janos_XP' added during installation
    #
    Janos_XP
    master tcp ether Janos.local 11224
    query tcp ether Janos.local 11224
    #
    # COPATH_BKP added manually
    #
    COPATH_BKP
    master tcp ether 192.168.18.110 2025
    query tcp ether 192.168.18.110 2025
    #
    # SYB_BACKUP on the rs6000-tst is added manually
    #
    rs6000_tst_back
    master tcp ether 192.168.18.110 2027
    query tcp ether 192.168.18.110 2027

I tried to do a dump to the rs6000_tst_back remote backup server tape drive from my machine with the following command:

dump database dem to "/dev/rmt0.1" at rs6000_tst_back capacity=30720000 with init

At about two fifth of the dump it produced the following in the terminal window:

Backup Server: 4.58.1.1: Database dem: 13179548 kilobytes DUMPed.
Backup Server: 3.14.2.5: Logical page 1048589 is not in the given database map.
    Msg 8009, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'Janos_ASE', Line 1:
Error encountered by Backup Server. Please refer to Backup Server messages for details.

Looks like the dump failed at that point and did not go forward.
I looked into the local backup server log file and found this:

    Feb 6 19:13:04 2004: Backup Server: 4.58.1.1: Database dem: 13179548 kilobytes DUMPed.
Feb 6 19:13:04 2004: Backup Server: 3.14.2.5: Logical page 1048589 is not in the given database map.
Feb 6 19:13:07 2004: Backup Server: 5.26.2.7: Internal System Error: Cannot allocate command structure for 'bs_end_dump' RPC. CT_CMD_ALLOC returned '-4'. Increase the operating system swap space if the amount of free swap space is low.

I looked into the remote backupserver log file and found this:

Feb 6 16:49:20 2004: Backup Server: 6.58.1.1: Device '/dev/rmt0.1' supports multiple dump files per volume set.
    Feb 6 16:50:51 2004: Backup Server: 6.28.1.1: Dumpfile name 'dem040370EC9D ' section number 0001 mounted on tape drive '/dev/rmt0.1'
Feb 6 19:12:53 2004: Open Server Session Fatal Error: 16310.15.0: srv__ioparam: Fatal error while Reading PARAMS TDS for spid: 34
    .
Feb 6 19:12:57 2004: Backup Server: 6.45.1.1: Be sure to remove the tape/floppy from drive /dev/rmt0.1 (server: , session id: 34).

Is the swap space problem on my local machine with ASE 12.5.1 and OSX 10.3.3 or it is on the remote server with ASE 11.9.2 and AIX 4.3.3 ?

    Thanks a lot,

    János

Read the error msg. Lack of swap memory.
Change that OR decrease the memory used by ASE to make free mem space

On which machine ? On my OSX machine with ASE 12.5 or on the AIX machine with ASE11.9.2 ? I am trying to find out where do I have this alleged "swap" problem.

In my OSX machine which have 1.2G memory and 5G free disk space, ASE has 256MB total memory . On the AIX machine which has 3G memory, ASE has 512M total memory.

Obviously on one of the machines the corresponding Backup Server thought that he is unable to swap. I just do not know which one.

    Help...
