    Unanswered: Oracle Server Name Change

I need to find instructions on how to change the server name of an Oracle 8.1.7 server.

We have moved from one company network to our own new network and tried to change the name of an Oracle 8i server - Oracle then cannot load, and still cannot load even with the name changed back to what it was before the change.

If you can tell me where there are instructions to do this or to resolve the issue, please can you let me know.

    Many thanks

The solution is OS dependent & you neglected to share that info. :-(
Also stating "it doesn't work" is useless to diagnose the problem.
EXACTLY what did you do & EXACTLY what were the results?

I'll give a run down from the start. It is a Windows 2000 server, sp4.

    1) We run SalesLogix on this box so had to stop a number of services
    that relate to this

    2) Changed the IP address

    3) Changed the Server name in the My Computer > Properties

    4) Added the server to the domain

    5) Restarted the server.

It means we have to use SET commands to register the name of the DB, then go into SQL PLUS and manually start the databases.

Did you try deleting and adding the service with oradim?

take a look at your listener.ora file, you may need to change it seeing that you've changed the IP address
