    Unanswered: oracle 9

    i have installed Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP by downloading here .

    bbUt when trying to log in through Enterprise Manager Konsole (standalone) get the error ORA-12541 , no TNS Listener.
    What is wrong?

    ps: at the last stage of the installation it had asked me to create passwords. and it had failed. might this be related to this password creation?

    why dont you start the listener?

    1)open a dos prompt.
    2) lsnrctl
    3) start

    Hi Zaki..

    lsnrctl
    start
    I did them..

    but now have the 12560 error.
    it is ORACLE_HOME environment variable i guess.

    Re: oracle 9

    I think you must try the following:
    Start->Programs->Oracle->Network Administration->
    Net Configuration Assistent-> Listener confiration.
    Maybe you haven't configured listener in general.

    Best regards

    tnsnames.ora:
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = aethea-b00fv3qx)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.world)
    )
    )

    INST1_HTTP =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = aethea-b00fv3qx)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = SHARED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = MODOSE)
    (PRESENTATION = http://HRService)
    )
    )

    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    )
    )

    and Here is listener.ora:

    # LISTENER.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = aethea-b00fv3qx)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\oracle\ora92)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = orcl.world)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\oracle\ora92)
    (SID_NAME = orcl)
    )
    )

    By the way, at the last stage of installation I had problems giving the passwords for SYSTEM and SYS. iT FROZE, AND i had to close it.

    I Also shut down all the services related to Oracle, which of them need to be activated? i activate them manually then. Strat->Run-> "services.MSC" Choose the services starting with "Oraclexx...."

    Kind Regards,
    c.g.
