    Unanswered: Sybase 11.9.2 log segments

We have a application which only has 500 MB of data, but we have 6GB of log segments. Is this a normal configuration? We keep running out of log segment space.

I need a DBA's advice were in the process of hiring a new one.

Are you sure that the data segment is - 500 MB and logsegment is 3 GB ? Indeed! this is an unusual configuration. It is strange that you are running out of logsegment even with this kind a configuration.

Logsegment generally should be around 25% of your data segment. Off course, this recommandation varies depending on the application usage and other factors such as application design, long running transactions, concurrent users, batch running on the server, etc.

How fast your logsegment is getting filled up ?

How frequently are you dumping (backing up or truncate) log using "dump tran" ?

Do you have any open transaction in the database ?

Is the database being replicated or was it ever replicated or created from a "load" of a replicated database ?

On somedays it will fill up within 6 hours. I'm assuming the log is dumped each night during backup because the log is Zero after backup.

Don't know if we have any open transactions. Is there an easy way to find out?

The database is not being replicated
