    Unanswered: Fix Pack4 problems.

    Hi Guys,

Just a small update on DB2 Fix Pack 4 problems..

    1. Select Distinct does not work.

    2. Instance crashes.

and many loads of othe bugs.

Just for your information, IBM has withdrawn fp4 and pushed fp4a, however what i feel is that till a stable fp comes out it's advisable to remain on fp3.

Please post ur suggestions, comments and feedback.

    Cheers

    Concurrency

    Hi,

The instance crashes when we have multiple users running thier queries concurrently and suprprisingly even if 1 user runs a large query the instance goes down.

We have isolated the issue by increasing the Statement and Query Heaps respectively, however the issue of the instance going down is really baffling. We can't keep on increasing the heaps forever right.

    Yes

Yes, we have opened a PMR for the same with IBM and let's see what direction it takes from there on.

Another logical reasoning that I have come to is as you go upwards with fixpacks i.e from 2-3-4, DB2 does become more resource intensive. That's something which we have concluded with DB2 on windows (32 bit)

Wish I had a unix box to test the same!!!

One thing to remember is that DB2 fixpaks usually work as follows:

Odd numbered fixpaks - Include fixes, but no functionality enhancements
Even numbered fixpaks - Include functionality enhancements plus fixes

So even numbered fixpaks are a little riskier.
