    Unanswered: checking Oracle server installed

Does anyone know how to check if oracle is installed on the machine?

I want to check if oracle is installed in vb6. and if it is, create a new db in it.

there are different ways to check the installation of oracle.

the easiest way is to run the OUI (Oracle Universal Installer) and click the "Installed Product" to display the oracle products installed on the m/c.

As said there are diff ways to see whether oracle is installed or not.
Another way is to see whether oracle.exe or other oracle processess
    are runing or not.
    For windows
u can see Task Manager for oracle.exe
    or
    select
start-settings-controlpanel-services ------here u can see various
    oracle services statues.

    for unix

    # ps -grep oracle---will show u all oracle processess
    Pagnint
(No need to search web before posting new question)

Also on Unix like systems check for the oratab in /etc or /var/opt/oracle directory. The file contains all oracle homes
