Question Unanswered: load database twice from same file

We need to run lots of parallel processes against a single version of a database, and have created several environments to do this in. But Sybase refuses to do 2 simultaneous loads from the same file into different databases. Presumably this is to stop the same tape being read twice! We think we can fool it with symbolic links, but does anyone else have experience of this? Thanks

The dump-file is locked when you use it to load a database.
If it isn't too big you can try to copy it several times and load each database from a different copy.

We found out the hard way that it is locked - it failed in the middle of the night. Does anybody know why it's locked? I can see that this is relevant for tape drives, but can't Sybase tell it's a file?

If it isn't locked, you could overwrite it when you dump an other database, or you could alter it during the loadsequence.

It's a securitymechanism to ensure the consistency of the dumps.
