Unanswered: MaxDB vs MySQL: why MySQ ???

Having to implement an internal billing software on a GPL SQL DB, I was considering both....

I was consulting the documentation of both...
-Both are from Adabas (MySqL owner)
    -Both are GPL

    BUT (!!!):
MaxDB 7.5 (newest version of SAP DB 7.4) offers:
    -stored P.,
    -Triggers,
    -native Ref. Itegr.,
    -Views,
-and many other things that are not existing or just coming out in MySQl.

why is MySQL more diffused ?

I cannot see any benefit in choosing it... But perhaps I'm missing the point.....

    Just for example...
Do both use the MysQL J/connector or not ?
Do both use the MySQL ODBC/connector or not ?

    Any help ??

MaxDb is really GPL, as stated
    http://www.mysql.com/downloads/maxdb-7.5.00.html
The software from MySQL AB listed below is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and is provided "as is" and is without any warranty.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MaxDB by MySQL is a heavy-duty, SAP-certified open source database that offers high availability, scalability and a comprehensive feature set. On this page are downloads of the current stable release, and the latest development version is available on another page.

Has the MySQL Proxy for connecting to MaxDB been released? I have not heard that it had. Otherwise, MaxDB uses a proprietary networking protocol. http://www.mysql.com/documentation/m...QL_Differences

We plan to release a MySQL compatibility layer for MaxDB in the next
few months. MaxDB already supports ODBC and JDBC, please refer to
    http://www.mysql.com/products/maxdb/index.html and
    http://www.mysql.com/products/maxdb/features.html for more detailed
    information.

You may contact our partner in Italy. You will find their contact
    information at http://www.mysql.com/portal/partners/item-134.html.

Feel free to contact me directly if you need information about our
    products, licenses and services.

Thank you very much for your attention,
