Exclamation Unanswered: Problem installation Oracle Client 8i

    Hi All,

I have tried to install Oracle 8i Client 8.1.6.0.0 but failed at
the very first step. Please help.

The problem is when I click on the Install/Deinstall Oracle window, a small window
popping up says something like this: Jrew (name of popping up window) This Prgram has
performed an illigal operation & will be shut down.

When I click on Detail button of this popping up window, the detail is this: JREW
caused an invalid page fault in module JAVAI.DLL

My computer uses Windows 98 SE. It has Pentium4 Procesor,10 GB empty space and 255 Mb
    for the RAM.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Alberto

Problems might be some machine specific parts. You can take one step- remove the hard disk from the particular m/c . Put it in branded m/c and then try to install the oracle client. Then replace the hard disk in original m/c.

JRE/P4 Bug? I believe it manifests itself slightly differently on 98 as opposed to 2K.

    Try this...

Please don't email me directly with questions. I've probably just got home from the pub and cannot guarantee the sanity of my answers. In fact, I can't believe I actually made it home.

---There's a problem with working on Pentium 4 processor with Oracle. Oracle will NOT get installed on P4 processors. But there is a workaround for this which is as follows:
    1) First dump the contents of the Oracle Client CD onto your hard disk.
    2) Then search for the SYMCJIT.dll file in the sytem.
    3) Wherever you find a SYMCJIT.dll file - rename it as SYMCJIT.dll.ori
    4) Then proceed with the Installation from the location where you dumped the contents of the CD.
    5) After the installation is completed RENAME the SYMCJIT.dll file to its original name from SYMCJIT.dll.ori to SYMCJIT.dll (as this is required for JRE or JAVA based applications to work properly)

Hope this helps or if you still have a problem mail to S.Panda@nadec.com.sa
