    Unanswered: Dba-00314

    Hello everybody,
i have an old DG-UX with Oracle 7.3. After the last shutdown Oracle can start anymore.
i have script launching automatically oracle at the startup of the O.S.; thi script is very simple and use the sqldba functionality.
    I got this messages:

unable to attach to default host
    DBA-00314
    TNS-12547
    TNS-12560
    TNS-00517
    32 - broken pipe

    lost contact....
    lost contact....
    lost contact....

The same problem, of course, when i try to startup oracle using sqldba, connect internal and so on...

This is the message associated with the error:
MGR-00314: Unable to attach to default host.
Cause: The default host has not been set up correctly.
Action: Use the SET INSTANCE command with a valid host specification to set up a default host.

Does this mean i have to startup the SqlDba and then use the command
    SET INSTANCE <my_server_name> ?
Or do i have to try something else?

    Thank you very much
    Matte

---As you are on DG-UX, first setup the Instance name in your environment and then startup the SQLDBA and then start the database.
But before that check whether the RDBMS Listener is UP & Running or not.

Thank you, but it doesn't work.
i mean... in my environment i have ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME and so on correctly set. i have tried to add the INSTANCE variable too (which value am i supposed to give to it? SID? hostname?) in my oracle user's environment, but it's still not working.
one more info: i've checked the listener status: it's down and i can't restart it... always the same error.

    any other hint?

    thankx!

    Hello Matte,

    1) Before proceeding any further could you brief me out as to whether you made any changes to the Environment or the database before shutting down?
    2) Did you do a Normal shutdown of the database?
    3) The INSTANCE variable means ORACLE_SID itself and there's no need to add another variable again.
    4) Could you provide the error it gives when you try to restart the Listener -- maybe we can make a thorough check at this?

    Hello Sudhakar,
i didn't make any hange to the environment, but the server had a crash because of missing electricity. btw, the O.S. seems to be alright.
i read the doc you suggested and i think this might be a test to try:

    - $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle executable missing. Relink Oracle to prove this is ok.
    Eg: on Unix:cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib; make -f oracle.mk ioracle

as i can find out any useful information, i let you know.

    thankx,
    matte
