Question Unanswered: Ms Access And ODBC

    Greeting all

Problem: Every time I want ot distrbute a copy of an application to a client I cannot make the MDE file becuase of the linking Issues.

So I had to go to the client machine and make the MDE there .

Question: how I can solve this issue? or does it have to be this way?!

Thinking: can I use ODBC to connect the front end with the back end if they are both MS access ?
if YEs how and what do I need? as I have no clue about ODBC .

    thanks in advance

Have you tried a UNC path?

    Thanks for the reply ....

Yes But again I have to be in the Client Machine to know his Share Name

what I wanted is somthing like a popup windows to ask for the location of the backend or somthing I can embed inside the MDE in advance.

    thanks gain

As I understend, actually your problem isn't related to MDE anyway, your problem is related to linking of Access to other Data (maybe other mdb/mde or something via ODBC)
so you need a code to relink all linked tables, am I right? I have posted already a code named Refresh Links on this forum, that relinks all linked tables to an MDB or MDE file if you specify a path to it.
MDB, ADP <-> MS SQL + VBA, ADO & RDO, .NET, Oracle, Java/Jsp.
