    Unanswered: LISTENER Process

    Hi,

    Let me first explain my Oracle setup. I am running Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 server on AIX 5.2L.

    I've changed the name of the Listener from "LISTENER" to "LISTENER_ALL" in the listener.ora file. Now my listener.ora file has the following contents:

    LISTENER_ALL =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.4.14.72)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER_ALL =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = TSTN)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /oracle/app/oracle/product/8.1.7)
    (SID_NAME = TSTN)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = SMST)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /oracle/app/oracle/product/8.1.7)
    (SID_NAME = SMST)
    )
    )

    The listener doesn't start after I changed the name to LISTENER_ALL -

    Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong???

    Thanks and BRgds,
    yamuajsv

    How are you starting the listener?
    What errors do you get?

    lsnrctl start listener_all

    Thanks for your reply.

    I was starting using

    lsnrctl start

    without any arguments.

    If I had two listeners, do I start one at a time???

    Thanks.

    Yes, you'll need to start/stop/whatever each one by name.

    If you don't supply a name, it will default to 'listener'
