I am new to Oracle . I log in with Scott/tiger combination. What if i want to have admin rights. There are times when I get the message "Insufficient Privileges". How can I create user with admin rights.
Every user has certain privileges which they njoy and ofcourse they had to be granted them.
Only sys and system user are empowered to do all administration.
Needless to mention that sys user is more powerful than system.
The answer to ur question is log into sqlplus as sys with appropriate password and then issue this command.
grant dba to scott;
then scott will be able to do administrative job.
If u want to create a new user then issue the following commands sequentially.
1. log in as sys
2. create user <username> identified by <password> default tablespace <tablespace_name>
3.grant connect,resource,dba to <username>.
Log into sqlplus with newly created user and do the administrative job.
Make sure to go through the documents related to roles, privileges of user. U can also view the privileges enjoyed by users.
Hope u will like it.
Thanks Kausik for such a detailed description.But as I mentioned I m very new to Oracle. Where will I get the sys password. Actually I am connecting from scott/tiger from the day I installed Oracle on mine machine.The Main Issue is Sys Password. If U can put some light on this issue I will be extremely thankful to you.
The default passwords for sys and system users are change_on_install and manager. U can try them.
But I am not sure whether its changed in the server u r connecting to.
If u r the DBA of ur Orcale server then u can recreate the password in the database. If u r a user then ask ur DBA to provide with the required privileges.
