    Unanswered: From DB to remote DB

    Hello all

    I have a question for all of you about something I dont know where to start at. I have an Oracle database sitting on a machine. I wont go into detail as to what is updating this database but lets say its got a web front end on it. I am wondering if it is possible to connect this database to a another remote database and transfer data from one to another(after every new record is inserted into the initial DB). I feel it involves listeners and the use of NET8 etc, however, I am not the most knowledgable when it comes to this. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start at?

    Re: From DB to remote DB

    You would want to use a database link.

    The insert to the second database could then be performed by a database trigger like this:

    create trigger trg after insert on t
    for each row
    insert into t@remotedb( col1, col2, ... ) values (:new.col1, :new.col2);

    Alternatively, you may want to look at creating a materialized view on the remote database, so that data is replicated there automatically.

    What you don't want to do is put this replication functionality in your web front end. That would be messy and inefficient.
