    Unanswered: Event Monitors

    AIX .. DB2 V8.1 FP 4

    Is it necessary to do
    update monitor switches
    to use event monitoring ?

    No it's not. "UPDATE MONITORS SWITCHES" is for snapshot monitor, not event monitor.

    Different Concepts

    Hi,

    Just to add event monitoring is used for trapping specific events like deadlocks or for monitoring statements, bufferpools and other entities. They would be generally used to gather information regarding a certain event.

    Where as snapshot monitoring is enabled to evaluate the performance of the system at a given point of time and also to go ahead and help in tuning of the system

    They are 2 different tools.

    Hi,

    Please read "System Monitor Guide and Reference". This book is part of DB2 documentation. You shoud read "Chapter 4. Using Event Monitors" for event monitor or "Chapter 3. Using the Snapshot Monitor" for snapshot monitor.
