    Unanswered: sql plus won't start

I'm a new user to oracle and have recently installed oracle9i on my machine. When I try to run sql plus, the computer loads for a moment but then stops and nothing happens. I can run the dos-type sql plus (sqlplus.exe) but the windows one refuses to run.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

what is in your $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory?

you should have something liek this:
    C:\oracle\ora81\bin\sqlplusw.exe
    - The_Duck
you can lead someone to something but they will never learn anything ...

    Re: sql plus won't start

Oracle set up orahome/bin as default ( in path ), so sqlplusw must start in any place like sqlplus. So if you typping - "sqlplusw" and nothing happend ... may be reinstall help

is your environment variable PATH including D:\oracle\ora92\bin

check it with the cmd-prompt and then ggf. change your path variable explicitly and try calling sqlplusw.exe from the prompt ...

    what is it doing then?

This is usually a JRE (Java runtime engine) problem. Windows and Oracle tend to fight over Java versions. andrev's advice is best.

What version of Oracle are you running.

If it is 8i it may be the jre problem. Search Google - Groups for "Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most
of the post-install configuration tools will also be affected"
