    Question Unanswered: select column fields

    Please advise:

    How do you select all column fields from a table without doing select *, because I need to do a count(*) along with all fields and it won't let me.

    I under show columns from table can give info about the table and how to extract just the field names and then embeded the result into a select query?

    So psuedo-code:

    SELECT count(*) AS number, (extract all column fields from $table) FROM $table GROUP BY something;
