    Re: export question 2

You want to create a header field from the export? Not a direct method, but, since the first record is at the begining of the export data it is you could put the field names into this record's fields (at least those that allow text entries) and accomplish this goal.

This is one of the ways you can achieve this:

    Open FIleMaker Pro.
Go to File, Export. In the file type select .mer file type. This will save the file n your machine as .mer. You can then rename this file to .csv and open it. This will have the first row as column names.

    Hope this helps.

Look at Troi File. It has a several functions for working within the content of an exisitng text file, or if you don't wish to utilize a plug-in. You could import the text file, use FirstMaker's subsitutue command to make your changes and export the file with the same name...

    Thanks,

Troi File is definately a method to do this, but now that I think about- it may be the long way around if this is a one time thing, but if you need a really specific text file, combining my advise with the others will give you a way to create the file, rename, move and control the content...

    thanks,

    File Toolbox plugin FREE

Nice FREE plugin does 99% of what TroiFile does

I have both and I'm finding FileToolbox is actually easier to use.

It claims to do about 80% of what Troi does, but it actually does about 60% of this. This plug-in was written from FileMaker 4 and how people are using it with FMP 7. It's free, but you need to proceed with caution. Troi File was also shipping in the FileMaker 4 days and they have had multilpe updates to support MacOS X, Windows NT/2000/XP and other issues that have come up.
