    Unanswered: To find SID

    Hi,

Our client has provided the IP address of the database (oracle 9i) and the port to connect to. Not provided the SID. Any means of knowing the running instances on a particular IP?

    Thanks.
    Oracle can do wonders !

Since you neglected to specify the OS,
this might not work for you.
    ps -ef | grep pmon
    Or alternatively
    lsnrctl status

    HTH & YMMV
