Post Unanswered: Moving Oracle 9i database between servers

I'm fairly new to the Oracle world and am having problems moving a 9i database between servers with identical OS's, so please bear with my problem with the simple things. I've copied over all the database files but I can't figure out how to change the SID or the path names and modifying the spread files. Is there anybody out there willing to lend a few words of advice?

Assuming u r working on windows platform.
I hope u have done the following things..
    1. Installed Oracle server s/w in the second server.
    2. Copied the DB files to the second server..

    Now do the following..
1.Open ur Init<sid>.ora file check the file locations specified for say control files, archive files(if DB is in archive log mode) etc if they are not then modify the file locations and save it..

    2. Use the Oradim utility to create an instance of the DB.
For syntax put oradim /? (on ur cmd prompt)
After this u will find OracleService<sid> under Control PAnel>Services
    , it should be started.

    3. Log into sqlplus as /as sysdba
sql> startup pfile= 'the location of ur Init<sid>.ora'

(If any error is reported then do post it).

    4. Check for the normal operation of ur db.
One more thing u need to do ie.
    sql> create spfile from pfile;
The above statement is only required when ur DB starts with Persistent Parameter file or spfile<sid>.ora.
It is done to bring the changes all u made in Init<sid>.ora file if at all u have changed that..

Thats all u need to do..
Do let me know if u get stuck somewhere...

    Good luck..

Asume that you are using the unix.
Then simple copy whole oracle instalation to the another machine.
Set the os rights the same as are on previous machine.

If you miss the inventory tree, then OUI won't be able to upgrade, patch or migrate in the future.
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
