Question Unanswered: sqlplus / & environment variables

    Hello,
I'm trying to access the database using
    > sqlplus "/ @ORACLE_SID" but for some odd reason cannot connect. If I type the following >sqlplus user/passwd@ORACLE_SID I connect fine. I'm assuming that there are environment variables that have not been initialized. I'm connecting to an ORACLE 9 and using aix5.1.

Is it environment variables or something else?

    thanks,

    ORACLE_HOME & ORACLE_SID must be properly set.
What is the actual error you are getting?
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

    My ORACLE_HOME & ORACLE_SID are initialized.
The error I'm getting is :

    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

I can login by typing the following :
    sqlplus user_id/passwd@ORACLE_SID

If you are attempting to connect to a database using external authentication you need to check out the link below.
