Unanswered: view .MDF without owning MS SQL

I have someone who has an .MDF database file they want to me look at, but I cannot see it because I do not have MS SQL. Is there any viewers I can get, or is there a way to translate it into a MySQL readable file?

I don't know of any way to access the data in an MDF file without a copy of MS SQL. Note that you can use the MSDE and/or the SQL Evaluation copy to access the data (assuming of course that you are running some flavor of Windoze).

Then use SP_ATTACH_DB to attach that file or if there is no .LDF file then use SP_ATTACH_SINGLE_FILE_DB which will create the Tlog automatically.

By all means take help from books online about attaching a database.

You will be more surprised to know other utilities if you take time to read Books online for SQL Server.
