    Unhappy Unanswered: shutdown immediate

    Hi,

I was running an insert statement when the pc crashed and was rebooted. Now everytime I try to logon to the database either by Toad or SQLPLUS I get the following message:
"immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted"

I have tried to shutdown the database via cmd but get the same message, also if I try to startup the database, I get the message the database is already started...please help!

    Version: Oracle 9i

    Re: shutdown immediate

Have you looked at the alert log ?

I'd also try the Enterprise Manager Console - the instance config will tell you the status of the instance / db.

    Kind regards

    Keith

    sqlplus
    connect / as sysdba
    shutdown abort
    startup
    exit
