Unanswered: need to determine which verison of mysql I have

I just tried to upgrade from MySQL 3.23 to 4.0 on my Linux 7.3 server. I think I managed to do it successfully, but I'm not sure how to determine which version of mysql my server is now running.

Is there a simple command that reveals this?

When I look at the phpinfo page on my test site (which spits out the results of php_info()), it says that the mysql Client API version is 3.23.58

    Any ideas?

    thanks!
