Which distribution are you using ?
To create, Druide or any other tool.
Permissions : all permissions for the syabse user (the same starting the ASE server)

    1) using fdisk you should alloc some space on yours hard disk
It must be primary partition or logical drive
    2) using fdisk you must setup the type of this partition to 60 - (Unknown)
    3) edit /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices like this:
    # raw device bindings
    # format: <rawdev> <major> <minor>
    # <rawdev> <blockdev>
    # example: /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sda1
    # /dev/raw/raw2 8 5
    /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sda6
    /dev/raw/raw2 /dev/sda7
    /dev/raw/raw3 /dev/sda8
    /dev/raw/raw4 /dev/sda9
    /dev/raw/raw5 /dev/sdb5
    /dev/raw/raw6 /dev/sdc5
    /dev/raw/raw7 /dev/sdd5
    /dev/raw/raw8 /dev/sda11

    4) add user sybase to group disk, to allow him use raw devices
    5) check uot that the servece /etc/init.d/rawdevices starts at boot
    6) restart the linux box and log in as sybase
    7) check out that raw is function:
    $raw -qa
    /dev/raw/raw1: bound to major 8, minor 6
    /dev/raw/raw2: bound to major 8, minor 7
    /dev/raw/raw3: bound to major 8, minor 8
    /dev/raw/raw4: bound to major 8, minor 9
    /dev/raw/raw5: bound to major 8, minor 21
    /dev/raw/raw6: bound to major 8, minor 37
    /dev/raw/raw7: bound to major 8, minor 53
    /dev/raw/raw8: bound to major 8, minor 11
at this point you are ready to make devices:

isql -Usa -P*** -Ssybserver << :end
    disk init name="rawdev",physname="/dev/raw/raw1",size="1024M",dsync=true
    go
    :end

    luck!
