Unanswered: how to export a DB from one SQL Server to another?

    Hi all

I'm really new to SQL Server and have this problem.
I got a server running this db.
I need to "export" this db to another server, but I need to do something link "sql> export db .........", I mess up with DTS but come with nothing, somebody could tell me some higlights on this?
    Thank You.

    Willie.

The safest way to do this is just make a backup of the database, copy it over, and restore it. If the database is huge, compress it before copying it, or look at SQLLiteSpeed.

DTS Packages require 3 peices of information
    1. source Database
    2. Destination Database
    3. any Transformations.you wish to perform

the best way to do this is to create a package in the dts designer and use the Transfer databases task.

    Open enterprise manager
    open data transformation services
right click local packages --> click new Package
right click anywhere in the designer and click add task
    choose #13 Transfer Databases Task.

for this to work the source and destinations must be physically different servers.
you must have appropriate permissions to the new server

Detach your database. Then copy the files corresponding to the db.
Attach database on the new server calling the files copied.
