    Unanswered: transparent gateway

Does anyone know if the following is possible by using an Oracle Transparent Gateway:

    insert into SybaseTable
    select * from OracleTable

    or

    select S.field1, O.field2
    from SybaseTable S, OracleTable O
    where S.field1 = O.field1

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Yes, both work.

The gateways are "transparent" because they make the non-Oracle database look like an Oracle database. So, any basic SQL that you can run on two linked Oracle databases can be run on two non-Oracle linked databases.

The key is to create your dblink and run a simple test like "SELECT TNAME FROM TAB@DB2.WORLD" or anything else simplistic. Once that works, you're in like Flynn!
