    Unanswered: Storage question

    If you are using locally managed tablespaces, and letting Oracle manage your extents and segments:

    CREATE TABLESPACE chuck DATAFILE '/u02/chuck01.dbf' SIZE 65600K
    AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 8192K MAXSIZE 131136K
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL
    SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO;

    Does it make sense to mention anything in the STORAGE clause in your CREATE TABLE statements:

    CREATE TABLE FA_BUILDING_KEYS
    (
    ID NUMBER(8,0))
    -->STORAGE (INITIAL 338K NEXT 33K);<--

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Is this automatic management all it's cracked up to be?

    Run some benchmarks.

    Compare the time it takes you to configure all tables
    for pct-free, freelists, storage, etc.
    vs.
    Having ORacle do it automaticaly for you

    then see what kind of results you get back from each environment.

    Let me know what you find out.
    Personally, I don't have time to figure out what freelists should be, what pct-free and used should be for each table, etc.
