    Unanswered: Easy question for DBA's??!!

    System:

    Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.1.0
    Oracle 9iAS forms
system running on a UNIX sun 5.8 box

How can I find out who is logged on to the database, I put a similar question on the forum and was advised to look in the V$session table. This is fine if a user logs on to the DB via SQL but if they log on through a form, you can only see that the generic forms application server is logged on.

    SO....

How can you identify who is logged on to the DB, if uses access it via a forms application server???

well if users connect to the database via a form they are obviously in one form or another connecting to the database via a username and password (even if identified externally). Therefore using the v$session will display the users who are currently logged in.

As metion in my note 9iAS forms access the database via an application sever, therefore you can only see that the application sever is connected to the the database multiple times.

My question was: Is there a way of identifying who is specifically logged on to the database when users access it via an application server.

I.E. IN V$DATABASE YOU CAN ONLY SEE THAT THE APPLICATION SERVER IS, NOT EACH INDERVIDUAL USER.

Below is the query I use to see who is using our three 9iAS Forms boxes

select username, logon_time, module, action, machine
    from v$session ss, emp e , dept d
    where username = lid
    and dept = d.id
    and program like 'f90%'
    order by 2

You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
