    Unanswered: PreLoginHandshake

    Hi Folks,

    Am getting this general network error when trying to connect to a SQL Server:

    ConnectionOpen (PreLoginHandshake())

    Have seen this a few times before and was wondering if anybody knows exactly what it means.

    Cheers

    having had a think about it ,

    I'm using SQL 200 client tools to connect to a sever that requires named pipes as a protocol , if I don't specify an alias then the client will default to TCP/IP and then not be able to connect.

    Cheers
