    Unhappy Unanswered: General Information ..

    Hello everybody ,,,
    This is my first post in Sybase forums ,

    I need some basic information about Sybase that I need to use in my DBMS small project ... I hope you help me with The following questions because I couldn't find exact answers ..



    1) When was Sybase released .. ?

    2) What is the latest version of Sybase and when was it released ?

    3) How many fields can Sybase (latest version) support (scalability) ?

    4) What software development tool (web application) does is support such as ASP, ASP.NET ..etc ? what it works best on ?

    5) What software development tool (windows application) does is support like C, C++, JAVA etc ... ? what it supports best ?

    6) What OS platforms does it operate on ?

    7) How much does it cost (latest version) ?

    Sybase : I suppose that you're speaking about Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (the principal RDBMS)

    1) When was Sybase released .. ?

    ??? Major releases => ~ each year, bug fix on demand

    2) What is the latest version of Sybase and when was it released ?

    12.5.1 (12.5.2 is coming soon). Then 15 should come at the end of the year

    3) How many fields can Sybase (latest version) support (scalability) ?

    Fields ? Means nr of columns ? quite unlimited

    4) What software development tool (web application) does is support such as ASP, ASP.NET ..etc ? what it works best on ?

    Everything. Sybase is recognized for its open architecture.

    5) What software development tool (windows application) does is support like C, C++, JAVA etc ... ? what it supports best ?

    The major : HP-Ux, Linux, Sun Solaris, IBM Aix, MacOS, Win32 , Digital/compaq Unix, HP Itanium

    7) How much does it cost (latest version) ? depending the version, the optional modules, the type of license (by CPU/by users)... Visit http://eshop.sybase.com/eshop or call Sybase. A free version exist on Linux and Win

    Well, Sybase (the company) is celebrating their 20th anniversary. Their first product was Sybase SQL Server (now called ASE) so you can say that ASE is about 20 years old.
