Arrow Unanswered: TNS Error when creating database

    Hi,

I'm trying to create a new database instance using the Database Configuration Assistant.

However, when the database is initializing, I get an:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.

I have shut off all the Oracle Services (OracleOraHome81Agent, OracleOraHome81DataGatherer, OracleOraHome81HTTPServer, OracleOraHome81TNSListener), but the error still comes up.

    I'm using Oracle 8.1 on a Windows 2000 machine.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening?

    Thanks

yeah... not too many Oracle tools will work from a term session... even when only in remote admin mode. Most everything needs to be done at the console or via remote control of the console.

I found that out the hard way a few years ago when trying to run oradim using the remote desktop client to a server... sat there for a few hours trying to figure out what the heck was going on... bad times...
