Unanswered: character string buffer too small
I’m running into a problem when I try to convert some of our clob fields to character strings to display on a Powebuilder report. I’m using the function dbms_lob to convert, as in:
Select dbms_lob.substr(d.notes,32767,1) from myreport d
32,767 is the maximum string size this function can handle, and the sql statement is crashing with a “character string buffer too small” error when it retrieves a really big report from my Oracle database.
Is there a way to display my data from Oracle clob column which I converted to string in my stored procedure so it can display on my PB report without crashing my system?
How can I get around this?

also try http://asktom.oracle.com
and do a keyword search on DBMS_LOBYou can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
