    Unanswered: extents question

    we have a table with 10.4 million records. D/B version is 8.1.7.0.0.

    segment_type = table
    header_file=9
    header_block = 671737
    bytes= 482918400
    blocks = 58950
    extents = 343
    initial_extent = 14909440
    next_extent = 4194304
    min_extents = 1
    max_extents = 800
    pct_increase = 0

    Tablespace: Dictionary managed

    About 8-900,000 new records are created per month, about 25k daily.

    How is this table growing? How many times MAXEXTENTS could be done on this table? Is there a limit? And how does this influence tablespace? Any suggestions/explanations will be very useful.

    Alter Table <table_name> Storage ( Next 128m);

    Can you please tell me what it does? Also, at the rate at which the table is currently increasing do you see any immediate problems?

    How is this table growing?
    You already answered this - "About 8-900,000 new records are created per month, about 25k daily". What exactly do you mean, by how it's growing??

    How many times MAXEXTENTS could be done on this table? Is there a limit?
    You can do only one MAXEXTENTS on each table. Once you reached the current number of extents equal to MAXEXTENTS, any attempt to allocate additional extent will give you an error. You can change this by setting the MAXEXTENTS to UNLIMITED.

    And how does this influence tablespace?
    The tablespace will grow if you keep allocating additional extents. Hope you have enough disk space to allocate....
