Unanswered: String with length greater than 256???

I'm using access 2000 and found that my string doesn't hold any character after the 256 limit. I have read about variable length strings, but no place which tells me how to use them or set them up besides the obvious: left(str, 5) which would give you the first five characters.

I even tried left(str, 500) to see if that would work but no.

How can I get my vb to hold onto more than 256 characters?????????

    Thanks in advance.

What kind of control are you using to display your memo field? The textbox control (by design) WILL hold a memo field - all 65536 characters worth ...
