Unanswered: remote connection (beginner under Sybase)

    hello,

We have a sysbase server runing under an old Unix box. I would like to connect from my windows machine (using tool such as DBArtisan) to the databases (in the unix box). What I have to do ? (install client in my machine, configure the unix box for remote connection)...

    Thanks in advance

    1. Install open client on you pc.
    2. Configure server connection information using dsedt. You need IP address, port number, id and password. This information will go in sql.ini file in $SYBASE/ini directory.

    Another question.
How to find the port used by Sybase in the unix box.

I suppose that I have to put the following entry in Server Address filed when using dsedt :
    TCP-host_name,port_number

    I am correct ...

What about Server status entry ...

    Thanks in adanve

For port number check interfaces file on unix box in $SYBASE directory.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

I fount the port number. I used dsedt to configure client.
but I were not able to connect to the DB using Sybase Central :
THe ASE-plug in does not support Server prior to 12.0

    Sybase Version :
    Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.9.2.1/1106/P/SWR 8738 ESD 4/HP9000-735/HP-UX 10.2

    Any solution ?

    - Try using DBArtisan by downloading the trial version.
    - You can install old version of open client (version 12 or lower).
    - Upgrade your ASE Server. Check EOL support for 11.9.2.

Also, to make sure your entry is good in dsedit, try to ping the server. Can try to work out more possibilities if you provide us with exact error messages...

    Cheers!
