    Unanswered: sp_rename & SSO role ?

    hi guys ..

i've a very strange problem, on sybase V12.0.0.2

a User called ALIM has to execute a proc : Sp_rename2 which is almost the same as sp_rename but a bit modified and which also permit to rename temp table created in the tempdb.

to rename thoses tables, user has to modified parameters "allow updates to systems tables" to "1".
so i tried to grant SSO role to the user ALIM, but i still got an error when i execute :

    Server 'CHO2_PAR_TST_SQL', Procedure 'sp_rename2', Line 420:
Ad-hoc updates to system catalogs not enabled. A user with System Security
Officer (SSO) role must reconfigure system to allow this.
    (return status = -4)

so i decided to change "allow updates to systems tables" to "1" with sa role before running the proc.
this paramater is dynamic isn't it ? no need to reboot ASE ?

    when i do :

    1> sp_configure "updates"
    2> go
Parameter Name Default Memory Used Config Value Run Value
    ------------------------------ ----------- ----------- ------------ -----------
    allow updates to system tables 0 0 1 1

but i still got same error and i don't know why

    Server 'CHO2_PAR_TST_SQL', Procedure 'sp_rename2', Line 420:
Ad-hoc updates to system catalogs not enabled. A user with System Security
Officer (SSO) role must reconfigure system to allow this.
    (return status = -4)

Does anybody met this pb before ?

    Thnx

    Try this...

    with sso_role OR sa_role

    sp_configure "allow updates", 1
    go
    drop and create SP
    go
    sp_configure "allow updates", 0
    go

    HTH.
