    Unanswered: View on remote DB

    Hi guys!

Is it possible to create a View in DB2 on the table located on different Database? My colleague swears that it's possible. If yes - it could be exactly what we need.

Sorry if the terminology is wrong - I'm not a DB specialist - that's why I'm asking profies.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Yes, you can create a (federated) view to another DB.

In the DB you want to create this view, you have to create a wrapper, a server that points to the remote machine, under that server a nickname to the remote table and then you can create a federated view on top of the nickname(s).

A good redbook about this :

    I'm assuming you are using DB2 on Unix/Windows ..
You will have to use Federated Database ...

    1) Create DRDA Wrapper
    2) Create Server
    3) Create Nickname and Usermapping

Please refer to the documentation on Federated Databases

I'll try to read that huge book.
    Thank you, people.
