    Unanswered: Need help

    guys! I am trying to built a database for the following systems. I am just a learners for in Oracle and pl/sql. I would appreciate if someone can help me in this regards;

    A. User Inputs
    The following information has been obtained from interviews with the owner of the business.
    A customer brings his vehicle to the shop and requests we repair the damage that has been done. Our estimator collects the following information:
    1. Name
    2. Address
    3. Insurance Company and policy number
    4. Vehicle information
    VIN
    Manufacturer
    Make
    Model
    Year
    Mileage

    B. Process of Making the repair
    This information is placed on the work order along with a statement of the work to be performed.
    The customer signs the work order and agrees to pay for the repairs to his/her vehicle.
    The workorder is given to the mechanic who will do the repairs. The mechanic does the repairs and documents each work unit performed, the amount of time spent on each unit and a list of parts used for each unit.
    When the work is completed, the estimator totals the work hours, parts, and labor and calculates a total amount due for repairs. This amount is placed on an invoice and presented to the customer for payment or sent to the insurance company.
    Develop a database to support this activity.

    Thanks in advance!

    HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT!!!

    you will have to do this yourself

    then post it when you think you have done 98% of the effort

    we will critique your efforts and maybe improve it by 2%

    Hello r937,
    I have started this way, I did create a table following and got confused what do I do for vechile information? should I create its own table and make the foreign key of the first table ?
    CREATE TABLE autoshop(
    Customer_id number(7),
    Cust_fname varchar2(25),
    Cust_lname varchar2(25),
    Cust_address varchar2(25),
    Ins_company varchar2(20),
    Policy_num varchar(20));

    in your own words, what is the difference between varchar and varchar2?

    yes, i would definitely put the vehicle into a separate table, unless you feel youcan justify the redundancy that would happen if the same customer brought in a different car and you had to enter the customer firstname, customer lastname, customer address, insurance company, and policy number all over again

    it kinda makes you wonder whether the insurance policy belongs with the customer or the car, eh
